Blue and gold macaws usually have a green forehead, which transitions to blue covering the neck, back, tail and wings. The chest and underside of the wings and belly are bright golden yellow. They have large black beaks and white patches of skin around their eyes and faces. These patches are decorated with rings of small black feathers and turn pink when excited (it looks like they are blushing).
